Weldin Construction, Inc. began operations in 1983 performing specialized excavation, road construction, and underground utility installation. From 1983 through 1995 Weldin Construction, Inc. performed as a subcontractor for many of Alaska’s and the Northwest’s larger construction companies, including Wilder Construction, Inc., and Quality Asphalt Paving, Inc. In 1996, Weldin Construction, Inc. was awarded its first contract as a prime contractor. Since 1996, the company has performed over $100 million in prime contracts. Weldin’s current largest customers are the U.S. Air Force. U.S. and Army Corps of Engineers.
In
addition to its prime contractor customers, Weldin Construction has established relationships with
some of the largest prime contractors in the United States, including Weston
Solutions, Inc., Montgomery Watson Harza, EarthTech, and Shaw Environmental. SELF PERFORMANCE Weldin
Construction is unique among prime contractors in that most disciplines of
work are self performed.
This includes both the outdoor/underground portions as well as
interior work. Weldin Construction has
compliance agreements in place with the Carpenters, Laborers, Plumbers and
Pipefitters, Sheetmetal Workers, Operating Engineers, Plasters/Cement
Masons, and Sprinkler Fitters Unions, as well as a full
crew of non-union electricians. There
are also mechanical and electrical administrators on staff.
· More realistic scheduling (not having to rely on subcontractors’ ever-changing schedules) · Tighter control over the projects · Better communication among crafts · A single point of contact when issues arise, hence, quicker response time While most
aspects of Weldin Construction’s projects are performed in-house, certain
items are subcontracted, such as hazardous material abatement, paving, and
roofing. In those instances Weldin
Construction carefully scrutinizes and selects reputable subcontractors
to perform the work. HEALTH
AND SAFETY Safety is the
Number One Priority at Weldin Construction.
Our primary concern is the protection of the safety and health of
employees, subcontractors, and the general public. Weldin Construction has developed a
comprehensive Corporate Health and Safety Program which specifically
addresses the following topics:
Ø
General Health and Safety Procedures*
Ø
Hazard Communication Program
Ø
Confined Space Entry Program
Ø
Respiratory Protection Plan
Ø
Lock Out, Tag Out Plan
Ø
Vehicle Safety Procedures
Ø
Fall Protection Procedures *This plan
meets the provisions of Manual EM-385-1-1, USACE Safety and Health
Requirements Manual. BONDING A critical issue for contractors is bonding capacity. The construction bonding climate has tightened dramatically over the past few years. In the past, bonding was relatively easy to obtain - all that was required was a general contractor’s license and collateral. As a result of significant losses, bonding companies are now requiring not only sophisticated financial reporting, but demonstration of sound business judgment and a thorough understanding of construction contracting. Weldin Construction has established a reputation as a well-managed, responsible construction contractor. Because of the tightening of the bonding market, many construction companies have either lost their bonding entirely or been severely limited - not the case with Weldin Construction. In fact, our bonding programs have continued to increase.
